HANDMADE KILIM (KELIM) CARPET
MAISON EMIR CARPET KILIM LYON RHONE-APLES (69)

Collection of Handmade Oriental Kilim Rugs
The kilim is a carpet devoid of velvet because it is embroidered instead of being knotted. The kilim is made in various cities of Anatolia and Iran.
The kilims represent both the memory and the identity of the sedentary, nomadic and semi-nomadic peoples who weave them. Each tribe and each village has its own style: shimmering or sober colors, complex or refined decorations depending on the region.
History & origin of handmade oriental Kilim rugs
Kelim (kilim in Turkish, from Persian gilim; "roughly woven blanket") is the designation of a well-known variety of Persian weaves, but also the name of the technique used for its manufacture. Persian kelims are mainly produced by nomads who make carpets (without fringes) as well as bags and curtains for tents. The best known Persian kelims are Kelim Sumakh, Kelim Senneh, Kelim Fars and Kelim Ghashghaï.
